A Unix timestamp counts the seconds (or milliseconds) since 1 January 1970 UTC. The catch is the unit: most backends use seconds, but JavaScript's clock works in milliseconds, so a value that is 1000× off is almost always a seconds-vs-milliseconds mix-up. Use the unit selector to match your source.
The same instant prints differently depending on timezone, so this tool shows both the absolute UTC form and your local time. When storing or comparing timestamps, prefer UTC ISO-8601 to avoid ambiguity.
